Creativity and Beginner’s Mind

“In the beginner’s mind there are many possibilities. In the expert’s mind there are few.” -Shunryu Suzuki Roshi
In my journey toward being a more creative person, I look to approach every situation with a beginner’s mind, and a huge benefit to travel is that it INSPIRES you to BREAK FREE from whatever lame ideas and/or patterns have been holding you back. So -for example- in Buenos Aires I will:

-Go to the movies BY MYSELF
-Eat ICE CREAM daily
-Be sans car
-Talk less and LISTEN more
-Dance hip hop better than anybody else
-See WALLY WORLD
-Live IN THE MOMENT
-Be late but still be one of the first to arrive

-SMILE at strangers

-DANCE by myself in my UNDERWEAR in my apartment (wait I do that here too)

New places, people and things challenge you to be your most creative self! They’re a mirror for your most pretty and ugly parts, they force you to stay in the present, and to create your reality in a way that’s so tangible. I once slept under a blanket of stars in the Tsar desert and felt in complete awe of the universe. I was once semi hit on by a buddhist monk but didn’t have the guts to tell him off. I once stereotyped most latin men until I fell for one, and now I just stereotype him, and have to apologize to him pretty regularly. I was once scared of eating a Peruvian roast guinea pig until my mom told me that it was a chicken and then I asked for seconds. New experiences are the easiest ways to practice the Buddhist concept of “Beginner’s Mind”…you don’t even have to travel far…just see things as they really are and with openness to every possibility.

P.S. I don’t necessarily condone eating guinea pigs anywhere that they’re considered pets. I won’t eat yours, I promise.
