Expressive Arts Therapy and Procrastination

Well, since I started school, I’ve been getting questions about what the heck I actually study, and so I want to clear the air. Expressive Arts therapy is the use of the expressive arts (music, dance, drawing, theatre, writing, etc.) to promote health, healing, growth, and peace. It’s an approach that can be used by psychologists, social workers, counselors, educators, etc. It can be used as a complement to most any kind of therapy or intervention, and in many different settings, which I’m just starting to explore. I’ve decided to specialize in music therapy, which will make me both a licensed psychotherapist and a registered music therapist, and I’m pretty excited. Blah blah blah we’ll see what happens.

Perhaps more importantly, I have a paper due in two days, and I’m doing everything under the sun to avoid it. Didn’t I get over this like 10 years ago? Let me see what I’ve done tonight in my quest to AVOID WORK:

  • Read other people’s blogs
  • Eaten chicken, asparagus, almonds, jello, and a steak tip
  • Bought music from iTunes
  • Planned my trip to Argentina next week
  • Obsessed over how I can lose 7 pounds before next Thursday while eating chicken, asparagus, almonds, jello, and a steak stip
  • IMed with various people about virtually nothing
  • Tried to figure out whose car I can use in Argentina for a joy ride all the way to Córdoba
  • Fantasized about calling in sick to work tomorrow
  • Fantasized about chocolate
  • Wrote in my blog

I suppose I work well under pressure. Here’s a cool tune that makes great background music to my trip planning…Maná is pretty classic Latin Rock/Pop…you can’t go wrong with “Mar y Arena”:

I thought you might like to be aware of this online resource group:

    http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/healingdance/

Healing Dance Network - a web between the various healing dance studies,
theories, practitioners and proponents through which to find, share and
expand knowledge and understanding into the possibilities and realities of
healing through dance. I am hoping you will let us know about your own
search and findings and how we might work together to bring our learning
    further.

Hey Libramoon, this sounds interesting, and I’ll check it out. Thanks for visiting my blog. Do you have any wise words for a cancerian with gemini rising? :)
