Imago Couples Therapy & Counseling in Ann Arbor & Boston
I offer Imago couples therapy and online relationship coaching nationwide and internationally.
Many of the couples I work with arrive feeling exhausted, disconnected, or at a breaking point. Conversations that once felt easy now escalate or shut down. Attempts to repair fall flat. It can begin to feel as though something essential has been lost, and that you don’t know how to get it back. Often, by the time we meet, both partners feel deeply alone, even while sitting right beside each other. And still, there is often a way back.
The word Imago, meaning “image” or “reflection,” points to a central truth:
We are drawn to partners who mirror both the beauty AND the unresolved places within us.
Through this lens, the places that feel most difficult are not random—they are meaningful. With skill and compassionate guidance, what feels like conflict can become an opening for growth, repair, and deeper connection.
My approach integrates Imago Relationship Therapy with Internal Family Systems (IFS), Brainspotting, somatic co-regulation, and Wheel of Consent intimacy work. This allows us to go beyond surface-level communication to the underlying emotional and nervous system patterns that shape how you and your partner experience one another. At a deeper level, we attend to:
- The parts of self that activate in relationship (IFS)
- The nervous system patterns that signal threat or safety (somatics)
- The emotional imprints or traumas beneath recurring triggers (Brainspotting)
- The dynamics of giving and receiving (Wheel of Consent)
I work with a limited number of couples at a time, allowing for a high level of presence, care, and depth.

Cross-Cultural & Mixed-Race Couples
As a mixed, bicultural, first-generation Peruvian-Italian-American, my work with cross-cultural and mixed-race couples is close to my heart. Differences in culture, language, and lived experience can create meaningful gaps in communication, emotional expression, values, roles and expectations within relationship. In my work, these differences are approached with care and respect. We take time to:
- Understand each partner’s cultural context
- Clarify differences in communication and meaning-making
- Reduce misinterpretation and reactivity
- Develop a shared relational language
When engaged in this way, cultural differences become a source of depth, expansion, and connection.
What to Expect
Sessions are 80-minutes long, structured, attuned, and collaborative. Each session includes thought-provoking conversation alongside guided dialogue between partners, allowing each person to be fully heard and understood. You will learn how and practice ways of communicating that support clarity, safety, repair, and deeper intimacy. The Imago Dialogue serves as a central structure, helping conversations slow down enough for each partner to be accurately received. We may also integrate elements of:
- IFS and parts work
- Somatic awareness
- Brainspotting
- Wheel of Consent practices
This work is best suited for couples seeking a thoughtful, integrative, and deeply attuned approach to their relationship.
